About the Position

This newly created position is directly responsible for providing senior-level support to develop, deliver and maintain Human Resources policies, programs, and procedures at Stephen Wise Temple and Wise School.   This position will be responsible for performing and providing oversight for various tactical human resources activities and will be involved in strategic endeavors as a member of the senior leadership team.  Our HR Manager will supervise our HR Payroll/Benefits Administrator to drive efforts in the areas of employee relations, performance management, organizational design/efficiency, training/staff development, and communication.  This position reports directly to the COO/Executive Director.

About You

You are highly organized and comfortable working equally independently and as a member of a team.  You have serious experience in Human Resources not as part of your job, but all of your job.  You have the ability to gain the respect of senior leaders, but also to be able to work with our entire team effectively.  You like managing multiple projects and issues at the same time and can prioritize important from urgent.  Perhaps most importantly, you know what you don’t know; you are confident enough in your skills to ask when you’re not 100% convinced of the answer or would just like a second opinion.

 Job Responsibilities

Talent Acquisition

  • Conducts recruitment effort for all exempt, nonexempt, and temporary workers; writes and places advertisements; works with supervisors to screen and interview candidates; conducts reference checking; extends job offers
  • Manages pre-hire and orientation activities; collaborates with hiring manager for onboarding plans for new hires; acts as the point of contact and resource for new hires during the onboarding period
  • Creates and maintains talent pipeline throughout Temple and School; works with senior leaders to support internal talent management efforts

HR Operations and Administration

  • Develops, recommends and implements policies and procedures; works with our HR consulting partner to update the employee handbook annually
  • Establishes and maintains department records and reports. Participates in administrative staff team meetings and Senior Leadership Meetings
  • Evaluates reports, decisions and results of department initiatives in relation to established goals; recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed

Talent Management

  • Updates job descriptions as needed and monitors the performance evaluation program and revises as necessary
  • Oversees employee relations counseling; conducts exit interviews
  • Manages all employee relations issues by working with staff and management 
  • Partners with our directors at a strategic level to develop initiatives to support department goals
  • Maintains up-to-date organizational charts
  • Payroll and Benefits
  • Oversees benefits administration by working with our insurance benefits broker
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws
  • Manages and tracks all relevant and required documentation for certifying or denying any leaves of absence in accordance with policies

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years’ experience in Human Resources
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to build and sustain excellent business relationships internally
  • Experience with online HR systems
  • Supervisory experience with at least one direct report
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in Human Resources
  • Experience working in HR at a large corporation and as part of an HR team
  • Experience working in private schools and/or the nonprofit sector
  • Experience with running and/or overseeing payroll
  • Active member of SHRM or PIHRA

Compensation

Salary at $85,000 per year, 4 weeks of paid time off annually, and extensive employee benefits package
